Our goal at Wanting It More is to help introduce advanced statistics in sports to those interested in developing a better understanding of them. We recognize that many blogs currently addressing these issues are intimidating and do not take the time to introduce the concepts behind these statistics in a way that is easy to understand. We are dedicated to doing just that. The key to developing an understanding in advanced sports statistics is understanding the context of what exactly a particular statistic is trying to measure. In that sense, advanced statistics are more developed in some sports than others. Baseball statistics are extremely well developed while football statistics still have a long way to go. Basketball and hockey statistics are somewhere in the middle.
On top of introducing particular statistics and definitions, we will focus on the application of these advanced statistics. Our main focus in terms of application will be doing game reviews. We will break down a game based on our viewing of both the game and the box score attempting to explain why a team was successful in doing certain things and how those things may be reflected in a box score. Additionally, we will help show why more advanced statistics can better explain what happens in a game than traditional statistics.
Lastly, we recognize that sports are supposed to be fun. We enjoy watching sports as much as anyone and we watch tons of games. In that sense, we will write lots of stuff unrelated to statistics that are important to the sports world today. While our goal is to help introduce advanced statistics more broadly in the sports context, we intend to do it in a more friendly way than other blogs do currently.
